The objective of our Pre-K program is to instill positive health and safety practices, while providing a flexible yet planned schedule that promotes exploration and discovery of all areas of learning (i.e. problem solving, language, fine and gross motor activities, social and emotional communication, sensory discrimination, music, dance, computers, technology, creative art expression, books, poems, and play).
The Pre-K classroom is designed to accommodate 20 children between the ages of 4-5 years old and maintains a 1:10 teacher to child ratio.
Our Pre-K program provides a slightly more structured learning environment for those children who are approaching school age. The program is designed with the children’s level of interest and awareness in mind. The classroom supports children of varying levels of development and nurtures each child while they are reaching their developmental milestones. The children are learning to play cooperatively, socialize confidently, share, take turns, follow rules and multistep directions, and much more. The children enjoy playing with dolls and household items in our housekeeping area, they love to build with blocks and use cars and trucks, they enjoy the calico critter doll houses, matchbox car tracks, puzzles, electronic learning systems like “Osmo” and “Marbotics” on the iPads, farm and animal toys, books, music, fine motor development toys, science and sensory areas, and much more. We also have recently installed a 65” 4K Promethean ActivPanel Nickel Touchboard, which we incorporate into our Circle Time, and also use as a tool to expand our learning.
The children are taught through planned lessons to help them learn and improve their language, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving abilities, social and self help skills, and health education knowledge. These lessons take place in a classroom style setting and also include outdoor activities, fieldtrips and themed activities. Parents receive a monthly calendar with weekly themes and planned activities to promote learning and development in all areas. There are theme related songs, art projects, physical activities, early science, math, sensory and much more.

Next we gather for a circle time including stories, singing and music with piano accompaniment , numbers, colors, days of the week, phonics and letter recognition using the Wilson Learning System called Fundations. We discuss details about the week’s theme, and then move to our daily theme related art project, followed by some outdoor or indoor play room time. Next, we gather for lunch and move on to nap time. After nap, we have snack time and get ready for our afternoon. The children play in different learning centers and socialize, then we gather again for an afternoon enrichment activity. To close out the day we do a brain building cognitive activity, play with table top toys, read books, and play games.
Parents receive a daily verbal report from their child’s teacher indicating how well the child eats, as well as how long they napped. The teachers also discuss some of the activities their child did that day. We will indicate in writing if you are running low on any supplies you have provided for your child.
Parents provide all food, drinks, diapers, wipes, tissues, bedding, extra clothes and any other personal belongings you feel your child might need throughout the day. Food and drinks must come in daily from home and containers and cups must be labeled with your child’s full name. Scotty’s provides 1% milk to the children at breakfast and lunch (unless provided from home). Each child sleeps on their own cot provided by Scotty’s. Bedding must come the first day your child attends weekly and will be sent home on Fridays. Our cots require a fitted full size crib sheet. A light blanket is allowed.
