Every child develops at their own pace. We use guidelines and standards developed by State and National organizations for early childhood development to help create the best age appropriate activities for the children. The infant room runs on a flexible schedule that allows learning and developing to take place naturally.

At Scotty’s we focus on the development of the children in the following areas: Physical (gross and fine motor skills) , Cognitive (information processing, intelligence, reasoning, language development, and memory) , and Social-Emotional (ability to understand the feelings of others, control his or her own feelings and behaviors, get along with other children, and build relationships with adults.

Talking to the infants throughout the day is key to their Cognitive development. The teachers in the infant room always make sure to talk and sing to the babies. The children also enjoy being read to! We have bright colored short stories, books with different textures to aid in sensory development, and picture books to stimulate their eyes.

Physically, we hope to reach goals such as: grasping and letting go of toys, picking up small items with their pointer finger and thumb (pincer grasp), object permanence, rolling over, pulling up, moving around, crawling, balancing, and much more.

To encourage positive Social/Emotional development in the infant room we lead by example, by modeling positive behaviors. We are affectionate and considerate of feelings, wants and needs. We express interest in the babies and exhibit pride and approval of their accomplishments.
